Hot ditch in the Elizabeth river 3-24

It was kind of lame. Fished all over the place and caught one small striper and one small speck (about 15"). It was my first speck of the year so i guess that's something. Still looking forward to some Tog and then big bull reds!

Piscataway creek again and again!

I fished the Piscataway creek today and it was totally miserable for the first 2 hours or so. The wind was almost unbearable and I only caught one crappie. I noticed some bait up close to the shore so i scooped a minnow up with my paddle and put it on a float. I used the live minnow at various depths for about an hour with no luck so i decided to put it right on the bottom. The minnow died so naturally a small catfish picked it up. At this point i had 2 small fish in 3 or more hours of fishing. Blah! I was about to call it quits so I figured I'd just fish my way back to the ramp. The first place I cast to was a dock in about 6 foot of water. I immediately hooked a small yellow perch. A few more hits there made me realize they were holding tight to structure. After that it was game on. I fished several docks and other submerged structure and caught a bass, more crappie, white perch, and a few more yellow perch. 14 fish total with 7 keepers. Ended up being a fairly productive day! So just when you are about to give up...try just a little harder. I usually do my best at those times.

I fished Rudee inlet Saturday night to try for some specks and puppy drum and ended up with one small striper. Blah! I'm sick of striper! I did see one puppy drum about 25" cruising the top in about 25' of water...he wasn't interested in anything i had though.

Light line stripers

I fished the Hampton roads bridge tunnel last night to meet up with my buddy Forrest and caught some fun little schoolies. I got there around 11pm and fished till sometime around 4:30am (didn't have to work) I believe Forrest ended up with 40some fish caught on gulp the biggest going 27". The majority of the 20 fish i caught ranged in the 18-22" range with a few around 24"-25". It is almost pointless to say what i was catching them on because they were so thick in the light line i could have caught them with my bear (not bare hands) hands but ill say it just for giggles...mirrolures and tube jigs! surprise! For me the highlight of the night was the otter that splashed next to my boat and made me jump. Needless to say the paddle back was fun. Several times i dozed off while paddling. I didn't even know that was possible!

well I've fished the york river a few more times with some luck but they are very small striper. I think the big striper have moved out for good this year so its time for a change of scenery! I am not entirely sure of what my next target will be but i do want to try for some tautog.
